Period style aside (to my eye it has a bit of a “Rocky & Bullwinkle” feel – older readers will remember the 60's floral backgrounds), the design is too complex and busy. The most successful lenten arrays combine simplicity of design and strong, boldly-drawn execution.

Well-illustrated six-page piece here on lenten veils in the Austrian province of Carinthia. The interesting examples start on the second page.
